August 29, 2021 Week 6 Home MTC
Hola hola mis amigos(:
Holy cow I leave in 3 days! I am beyond excited and maybe a little nervous. We had our new teacher this week: Hermano Harris. He is pretty awesome and does a super good job teaching. We miss Hermana Topham though! Some of our Elders joined her zoom link with her new district to say hi. Hermano Sais told me that we are the last missionaries to be online... but it's all good as much as I would love to be in person there is a reason for why it happened the way that it did.
This week we had a challenge to only speak spanish all the time! "Hablamos su Idioma." I wasn't the best at it but speaking with my sister in spanish is really fun. I can't wait to talk to her after the mission. My district got together over zoom to watch the Best Two Years (a movie about missionaries) and I think it's so much funnier now that I'm actually a missionary. Knowing that will be us in a few days realizing that the language will be completely different in the field rather than our conversations in the MTC.
Hermana Jarvis and I had a lesson in English this week and it was so good. Definitely a huge improvement, especially transitioning back to English. Tomorrow we have our last one together in Spanish!
In our companionship study we read the conference talk by Dieter F. Uchtdorf, "Missionary Work: Sharing What Is in Your Heart." He gives five simple suggestions. First, draw close to God. I will attach the link to the quote that I wrote out from him in this section. Second, fill your heart with love for others. Third, strive to walk the path of discipleship. Fourth, share what is in your heart. Fifth, trust the Lord to work His miracles.
I am so grateful for all of you and I know Heavenly Father loves you so much. I have felt His love and comfort and I know you can too. Thanks, have a wonderful week!

Buenas tardes mis amigos!
This week was so good!! A few people told me that I'm improving in the language and that was probably the biggest compliment for me so I'm very very happy about it because they are all so good at it! Hermana Jarvis and I had our first lesson for 30 mins yesterday in spanish! It went so well and I'm definitely understanding what I hear a lot more. I'm still working on my grammar but I'm putting the pieces together, especially as I try answering questions.
Sadly this was Hermana Topham's last week with us because they are limited with teachers. She will be teaching a new district so she kind of betrayed us but it's fine... just kidding! We also have a very different schedule next week with a new teacher and our classes are going from 1:30-3:30 and 6:00-9:00pm... also P-day will be on Friday!
On Sunday this lady talked about how she left the church when she was young and later her friend took the discussions with the missionaries and made her do it with her even though she wanted nothing to do with the gospel. She eventually started to feel the spirit and decided to attend church for a day. She started crying, realizing how happy she was being there and what really stood out to me was what she stated next. "Do you guys even know what you have?" This really hit me because we're educated on how to pray to our Heavenly Father and every week we get to feel this incredible spirit and joy. With just a little more effort we can feel this way every single day.
Guess who is here?? That's right! It's Lyssa (: She's visiting for the weekend and we went to Colby's soccer game this morning and to a farmer's market here in Saint George. There's also a cute little book store inside an old house that I wanted to show her! So fun to see her before I leave!
One more week in the MTC ahh!!! I'm going to Texas on September 6th!! SO pumped!
Gracias por su tiempo y amor! Hasta Lavista (:

Hola mis amigos! Como están?
This week definitely felt a little longer than normal. It’s now starting to feel weird praying and bearing my testimony in English. Honestly just talking in general. I’m seeing progress which is good!
On Monday Hermana Jarvis and I had our first lesson in Spanish! It went pretty well and it’s so helpful to hear different people speak the language! We had another one on Friday which went a lot better and I can tell we are getting more comfortable with it!
Tuesday we went to a fireside and it was amazing!! This lady named Ashley Hess performed on the voice and she came to talk/ perform for us!! SO COOL! She has such a beautiful voice and is so so talented! All of her music was about God’s love and I could definitely feel the spirit in that room. She was talking about not performing on Sundays and mentioned a quote from President Monson: “I sacrificed something I love for a God I love even more.” She also talked about how “No’s are not yets” because the judges originally told her that her song was not good enough and she decided to use it for her performance and ended up being more successful with it!
One of our Elders decided to go to school for a semester and then go on his mission so sadly we didn’t have a chance to say goodbye but we all learned from him and he was meant to be apart of our district for a least some time so we’re grateful for him and wish him the very best at school!
Hermano Sais got in a car accident!! Poor guy. He’s okay though thankfully and we had a sub because of it on Thursday. His name was Hermano Gonzalez and he did a really good job!
This morning we went to cedar city for Colby’s first soccer game! They won 8-2!! It’s weird being on the other side now... having to sit in the soccer weather just watching!
Kenna and I performed a musical number for my class yesterday and it was so fun to sing with her! We sand Come thou Fount of Every Blessing! She’s got such a sweet and beautiful voice. So grateful for her! If you want to hear it, it’s on my Facebook (:
I just want to let you all know that God loves you so much. He cares about what you are going through and is always listening to what you have to say. He gave us the gift to choose for ourselves but it’s up to us to follow Christ’s example. By simply being kind, selfless, forgiving, and motivated to improve. Thank you for reading my emails it means the world to me and I hope all of you are doing really well. Thank you!

Our classes this week were very different from how they were in English but my teachers did a good job with the transition and still making it just as entertaining. Sometimes, we join other districts to practice the language and we made a powerpoint introducing and describing each member of our family. He asked me to explain what we were going to do and I understood everything he said I just didn't know how to say it back so I literally just said, "nosotros... powerpoint..." and he just said "Sí" as if I did so good, but don't worry guys I'm so much better now! I was also very proud of the one I made but apparently the way I described the heights of my family they did not approve of haha! They had a good laugh though.
Hermana Jarvis came to Saint George for a family reunion so she was able to do class with me! The look Hermano Sais gave us when we joined the zoom together was priceless! She left Tooele at 4 in the morning so she was here before class! During our break she proved that she can roll her r's now too! She also has 5 little sisters and they do school half in English and half in Spanish which I think is really really cool.
My little brother, Colby, has been going on bike rides with me a lot! This morning he got up at 6:30am with me to go; which was awesome. This week I have been playing more card games and I explored my cooking a little more when it was my turn for dinner. I made stuffed peppers! Not bad but needs improvement. Yesterday was also Kenna's birthday so we went to a Mexican restaurant for dinner and played pickleball!!

August 7, 2021 2nd week MTC
Hey everyone!!
I hope all of you are doing well!! I just finished my second week in the home MTC and it was pretty good. My district is still awesome and continues to make me laugh. I made a discovery that on zoom it flips your camera from what you actually see your picture as. One day we were talking about the standards of being a missionary and how you should stay focused. The topic of flirting came up and one of the Elders changed their name to Hermana Cutler and wrote in the chat about how cute one of the Elders are... I had to clarify that it wasn't actually me and Hermano Sais called them a bunch of "Silly Geese" which made up for the fact. It was pretty funny. Later that day my sister, Kenna, came into the room to see all the missionaries in my district and the very first thing she saw was Elder Blackhurst stating, "Guys! Look what I can do with my eye" as he flipped his eyelid inside out. Probably an accurate first impression if you ask me.
The week actually went by pretty fast and I played some card games with my family during my free time. Next week I start in all Spanish!! Hermana Jarvis and I have to teach our lessons in the language too so we’ll see how that goes! We’ve had three outside of class already and they went pretty good! It’s so cool to see how we never actually go by the lesson plan and we teach according to their needs. It’s been awesome! I saw that in class too because one day we were talking about the fall of Adam and Eve and everyone just kept asking questions so we got into a super deep conversation about that and the plan of happiness. One of my favorite topics!
My camera roll now consists of only screenshots of scriptures! Some of them in Spanish! Here are a few of my favorites from the week:

July 31, 2021 Home MTC Week 1
Just finished my first week in the home MTC!!
I honestly thought that I wouldn't send any emails during the Missionary Training because I thought there was no point haha but I have so much to share with all of you! To all my friends starting their missions soon at home.... participate!! It makes it so much better and I honestly love it. If you stay engaged and involved in the discussions it makes it such a cool experience. The missionary schedule is hard some days getting up at 6:30 but so worth it. You start the day right by exercising and having plenty of time to get ready and do your personal studies. I was so nervous the Saturday before (probably because I also had to give my farewell talk twice the next morning) but don't be nervous it's seriously so cool to spend your time serving the Lord and limiting distractions from reality. Yes, we are getting into social media now but it's for us to share the love of God and comfort others. Which is so awesome!! Also I'm active on Facebook now so feel free to ask me any questions through messenger!
The first two weeks are in English and the last four weeks will be in Spanish. Every night we have a spanish class to get some practice in as well. Also another tip for incoming missionaries, do the Pre-MTC option. I met with Hermana Lin (provo spanish tutor) 3 times a week for only 30mins and it seriously helped so much. Highly recommend!
They were not kidding about the days being long and the weeks going fast. The very first day I did my studies early so I could go to bed haha. Usually I am a night owl but I did not have to worry about that. Also I apologize if this first email is long... I want my family to know the details haha.
I lOVE my district. Seriously awesome people. At the beginning of the week I was like okay we only have 10 minutes left then I can go have lunch! Now everytime I get out of class I get a little upset because I love being there so much. Hermana Jarvis (my companion) and I are the only Hermanas. We actually had a class together our first semester at Dixie which I think is so cool! She’s going to Houston Texas which is pretty awesome! Most of the Elders just graduated high school so you can imagine there's a lot of laughter and jokes! One of them had a filter on with a realistic mustache and said he couldn't figure out how to turn it off so it was like that all week! We definitely all know how to invite the spirit though and it seriously shows. I realized that everytime I make a friend and then we go to church I don't really share much because I get nervous but this week all of us participated so much and then we became close which has been so cool to see. This week we had morning devotionals which was an awesome way to start the day and then we had our first class from 9-12. Sister Topham is our teacher and she is the sweetest. We're her first group and she is doing awesome. Hermano Sais is the best. We have him from 2-5 every day and he did the splits for us yesterday since we all finished our pre-work and next week he's going to do 100 squats haha. They both make it super interactive and fun so the time goes by so fast now. They're also students at BYU so they can relate to us a lot. Apparently everyone, including the teachers, guess that I was 5'10.... I thought it was so funny. I had no idea I give off tall vibes? All of their jaws dropped when I mentioned only being 5'3!
In my morning class on the first day they asked what prompted us to serve a mission and I wanted to share but I didn’t think he would call on me and then on his third and final pick he asked me!! Out of 460 missionaries!! I thought it was so cool.
My favorite activity this week was on Friday when Hermana Sais invited another district. We talked about inspiring questions and then were put with one other missionary to listen to the spirit and ask a question. I kept wanting to ask the Elder at what time in his life did he know the church was true and I was building up to it but then I kept getting this feeling that I needed to ask him about a person. This thought kept going through my mind and then I asked him “who in your life helped you build your testimony?” And right away he goes “my mom.” Then he kept going on and on about how amazing she is and how she’s the reason why he ended up serving a mission. I thought it was such a cool experience to be able to connect with the spirit and have the feeling to know what to ask. Like my teachers always say “Teach the people not the lessons!”
This week was awesome and I’m really looking forward to the rest of the mission!!! Thanks everything! Love you all❤️❤️
